Ford Dealers Meeting 2006
Digital Antics have assisted Creative Technology’s Las Vegas office and their client Imagination to deliver a gargantuan curved ‘taco shell’ shaped front-lit projection screen reaching from floor to ceiling of the 5,000 square foot Mandalay Bay Convention Centre in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The Ford Dealers Meeting was presented to batches of over three thousand delegates for three sessions, each spanning two days, for a week and a half.
Imagination designed the enormous projection system specifically for the show. The complexity of lining up the fifteen Digital Projection LIGHTNING 28sx projectors would require a unique understanding and experience of 3D geometry and so Creative Technology invited Digital Antics on-board to help out. Digital Antics’ engineer Paul Scullion already had unique experience in this area after having worked on the lineup of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Woman in White in London’s West End and New York’s Broadway.
The arrangement was inherently complex to organise. Eight player PCs were supplied by Creative Technology (London) complete with high end nVidia graphics cards. Subsequently, each PC used its dual-head facility to output to the fifteen projectors to create one vast blended, overlapped, seamless image on the 120 foot wide, 36 foot high curved surface. Regular client media changes throughout the show, often occurring mere minutes before and sometimes even during, meant that the team needed to be at their utmost flexible and lateral in how they worked.
