Little Britain LIVE Tour Show Control

Computer says YES! with Digital Antics behind the helm at the Little Britain LIVE tour, providing show control for their client XL Video.

A live comedy sketch show with no set? Sounds improbable, but with swooping video graphics and high quality still images projected onto a backdrop, Little Britain LIVE does in fact come to life before your eyes.

With minimal physical objects to interact with, or hinder the performers, the look of the show had to rely on the expertise of XL Video and Digital Antics to organise the video systems control for three consecutive UK tours.

A Dataton based control system had already been put together by XL Video complete with four channels of Doremi MJPEG hard disk video players, Microvideo SDI video mixers and projector RS232 control. The four Doremi channels were split between A and B rolls which were cued by the operator, giving the show an option to isolate two failed drives and continue on two backups. The resulting combination outputs to two soft-edge aligned Barco R12 projectors, with a pair of G10s in backup.

Digital Antics’ programmer Craig Edwards reprogrammed the Dataton TRAX control from scratch - replacing a complex and difficult to edit system containing nearly 100 timelines with a slick, easy to maintain system based around the more advanced capabilities of TRAX including expressions which reduced the number of timelines to less than 20.

The timings of the video and voiceovers from Tom Baker between costume changes had to be perfect. The synchronisation between Matt Lucas, David Walliams and the video and audio display was slick.

The results were seen by hundreds of thousands of fans across the nation and will no doubt be enjoyed just as much when the boys head down under for their Australian tour.

On-going support for the touring system’s operator Beorn Parry and production manager Andy Gibb has been provided by Digital Antics’ Paul Scullion to help with the continuous update of new onedotzero content and material on the Doremi players at key break points in the tour.
