Mercury iScreen Interactive at NAIAS 2006
Digital Antics were asked by Imagination to research and develop a bespoke playback application to specifically run on the Apple Mac Mini small form factor computer on the Mercury stand at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit.
The choice of the Mac Mini platform was made by Imagination and was very specific due to the design constraints of the hardware in to which the system was to be installed. A 30 inch TFT screen mounted on a rotating base which could be turned at whim by the user. This required bidirectional communications with a separate hardware motor controller and position tracker.
Digital Antics’ programmer Craig Edwards worked closely with Imagination’s technology director Jonathan Laventhol and head of production technology Peter Brookes as well as their team of hardware and software engineers to bring the solution to fruition in just six weeks.
The solution utilised Apple’s Objective C and Quicktime technologies as well as the Open GL graphics framework. The software interfaced with Imagination’s motor and tracking hardware via a serial interface.
